Mockingbird Early Music Ensemble Celebrates Spring on March 21
On Monday, March 21, The Mockingbird Early Music Ensemble will present its program Celebration of Spring in Music and Poetry at the Paris-Yates Chapel on the Ole Miss Campus.
The performance – which is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. – will celebrate the spring equinox, the birthday of Johann Sebastian Bach and the Baha’I New Year and is free and open to the public.
The Mockingbird Early Music Ensemble was formed in 2003 by enthusiastic proponents of the historically informed presentation of music created before 1750. Based in Oxford, Mississippi group members perform on recreations of period instruments, including recorders, viole de gamba, harp, baroque guitar, psaltery, crumhorn and harpsichord.Members of the ensemble include: Irene Kaufmann, a native of Uruguay, South America, who played flute with the National Uruguayan Symphony from 1990-2001; Susan Marchant who is a member of the board of directors of the Viola da Gamba Society of America; Warren Steel who is a retired professor of music at Ole Miss where he taught music history, organ and harpsichord; and Ronald Vernon who is a retire associate dean in the College of Liberal Arts and professor of music at Ole Miss.
