The Ole Miss baseball team returns to the diamond tonight in Birmingham, Alabama to face the University of Alabama Birmingham Blazers. This midweek two-game series tilt will take place at Regions Field.

No. 9 Ole Miss (15-1) comes into this series on a ten game winning streak after sweeping Grambling State over the weekend. The Rebels are hitting .349 with runners in scoring position, including .370 with the bases loaded.

When the Diamond Rebels score in the first inning, they will be 9-0 on the year, outscoring the opposition 26-6.

The bullpen holds a combined ERA of 1.40 with an SEC-leading seven saves this season.

Let’s take a closer look at the Rebels’ midweek opponent.

UAB begins a six-game homestand with a 6-9 record on the season. The Blazers are coming off a weekend in which they were swept Creighton at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, the site of the College World Series. Redshirt-senior Griffin Gum leads UAB with a .286 average at the plate, and Brewton Hicklen holds team highs in runs (13) and steals (8). As a team, the Blazers are hitting at a .223 clip.

The Blazers will go with southpaw Adam Lamar in game one, who is the team’s best pitcher statistically. Lamar is 2-0 on the season in six appearances, including three starts. He boasts a 0.96 ERA over 18.2 innings and is holding opposing hitters to just a .136 average at the plate. The Blazers are coached by Brian Shoop, who enters his 10th season at the helm of the program.

The probable pitching match for this series showcases two southpaws for the Blazers Adam Lamar (tonight) and Stephen Baggett (Wednesday). Coach Mike Bianco will go with the arms of Andy Pagnozzi and James McAuthor respectively.

Ole Miss and UAB have stepped between the chalk 22 times prior to face one another. The series is knotted up with each club winning 11 games each. Last season, the Blazers swept the Rebels in a two seven-inning games.

Game times are set for 6:30 p.m., tonight and at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Regions Field in Birmingham, Alabama. Fans can listen to the call on the Ole Miss Radio Network.
