A 28-person group from Oxford and Ole Miss is in Haiti, working hard in helping the Haiti farmers dig trenches for better irrigation for their crops after a severe drought.

Assisting the football team are Lance and Amanda Reed of Oxford. Lance Reed is the owner of Chick-fil-A on Jackson Avenue, and Amanda Reed hosts Living Out Loud, a bi-weekly podcast featuring Christian living.

Lance said that three years ago, he met with Ole Miss football head coach Hugh Freeze and chaplin John Powell and that meeting grew into a yearly mission trip to Haiti.

They posted on their Facebook this morning, saying, “Blessed to be a part of what God is doing in Oxford, MS and Camp Marie, Haiti through 410 Bridge. Here are some pics from Day 1. We went to church today and met with the leadership council here in Camp Marie. Excited to see what God does this week.”

Now for a third year in a row, Freeze and several players from the Ole Miss football team have spent their spring breaks helping the Haiti residents better their community. This year, football players Talbot Buys, Chad Kelly, Armani Linton and Sean Rawlings are on the trip along with coaches Hugh Freeze, Corey Batoon and Maurice Harris who all brought their families. Senior executive associate athletics director Stephen Ponder is also on this trip with his family as well as several members of Ole Miss athletics administration, football staff and managers.

This year, around 50 Oxonians (members of FNC, the Orchard Church, and others) have joined Freeze and his players to help improve water irritation as well as education in Camp Marie in Haiti.

Also in Haiti is a 49-member student group named Ole Missions. However, they aren’t working at Camp Marie but rather at Mission of Hope compound which is 30 minutes northwest of Port-Au-Prince near the city Titanyen.

We at HottyToddy.com salute these wonderful Oxonians and Ole Miss students and staff for spending their vacation time to help the unfortunate in Haiti. Enjoy the pictures below:

When you hear so many negative stories about college students on Spring break, it is so refreshing to hear that our students are doing something meaningful. Congrats to them and thanks for representing Ole Miss so well.
