UM Museum 2016 Summer Camps

The University Museum is excited to announce its 2016 schedule of fun-filled summer camps for children. Children will travel back in time, encounter mythological creatures, and learn about the ins and outs of the museum in these exciting and educational camps inspired by the Museum’s collections and special exhibits. Returning camper? —the projects in every camp will be new, so join us again!

Cost of each weeklong camp:

$60 per week to Museum Members at the Family level and above

$80 per week, per participant for non-members

All supplies and snacks are included in the cost.

A computer for registration is available at the museum front desk if needed, and registrants will receive a confirmation email. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available. For Children Entering Grades 1-5:

Coast to Coast: American Art
June 13-17, 2016 9 a.m.-noon
Creativity abounds as children will learn about artists from the west coast art of Morris Graves to Southern Folk Artists to the artistic center of New York City. Young artists will create their own masterpieces inspired by the American greats.

Science and Art
June 20-24, 2016 9 a.m.-noon
This week we will explore both artists that are inspired by science and science that becomes art! We will make discoveries in the natural world and create artistic responses to basic biology, physics, and chemistry!

Tribal Art
June 27-July 1, 2016 9 a.m.-noon
We will view rare artifacts from our collection and travel the world creating art and learning about Indigenous cultures from the US, Panama, Australia, Ghana, and more!

Mythology Camp
July 11-15, 2016 9 a.m.-noon
Did you know the UM Museum has one of the greatest collections of Greek and Roman artifacts in the country? We will view a large special exhibit featuring rarely seen parts of the collection and create art inspired by the many different gods, goddesses, and myths of the ancient world.

Museum Mania
July 18-22, 2016 9 a.m.-noon
Campers will discover the ins and outs of the Museum as they learn about all of the different jobs in a museum, create projects inspired by art in our collection vault, and build and publicize their own miniature museum.

For Children in Preschool and Entering Kindergarten:

Meet me at the Museum! Mini Masters Summer Camp
July 25-29, 2016 9 a.m.-11:00 a.m.
For Ages 3-5 and a Grown-up*
Get the young ones ready to head back to preschool or kindergarten by making art with their new friends inspired by toddler stories and art from the Museum’s collections!

*Due to UM policies, all mini masters must be accompanied by an adult (can be one guardian for multiple children). Coffee and snacks will be provided for grown ups!

All About Art: Middle School Edition
July 25-29, 2016 1 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
Experiment with drawing, illustrating, painting, sculpture, and more in this fun-filled week of art inspired by Museum collections and exhibitions. All levels of experience are welcome and all activities will be new.
