Oxford Crime Report: Tuesday, March 8
Jerimia Lawson – Domestic Violence Aggravated Assault
On March 6, Oxford police officers responded to a disturbance. Upon arrival on scene, officers found a domestic assault had occurred. The victim stated that her ex-husband, Jermimia Lawson (34 of Waterford, MS) strangled her and kicked her in the stomach. The victim was six months pregnant. She was transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital and the police arrested Lawson for Domestic Violence – Aggravated Assault. Lawson was taken before Judge McLarty for his initial appearance and the judge set his bond at $10,000.
Major Jeff McCutchen said, “At this time, there appears to be no injuries to the baby but we will continue to monitor that with the victim.”
Oxford police responded to the following incidents: six careless drivers, three alarms, three suspicious activities, three disturbances, two fire department assists, two motorist assists, an ambulance assist, a 911 hang up call, a welfare concern, a simple assault and a grand larceny.
Oxford police investigated four wrecks, issued 41 traffic citations and made six arrests on the following charges:
(2) Possessions of drug paraphernalia
No seatbelt and suspended driver’s license
Warrant served and possession of drug paraphernalia
Ran red light, ran stop sign, minor in possession and DUI
Failure to comply, possession of drug paraphernalia, public intoxication and resisting arrest
University police responded to the following incidents: a vehicle stop in Kincannon lot with two moving violations of suspended driver’s license and driving without headlights plus possession of drug paraphernalia, an accidental hit and run in Big Valley Lot, a petit larceny at George Hall, an accidental hit and run at Women Athletics Complex, and a traffic detail assist on Chucky Mullins Drive.
Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls:
General fire alarm activation at 7:17 a.m. due to a water leak at the Rebel Club in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium
Smoke detector activation at 8:39 a.m. due to workers drilling concrete at University Parking Garage
Fire in the oven at 5:25 p.m. that went out before arrival at The Links, Building 22
Smoke detector activation at 5:55 p.m. due to burned food at 112 Orrwood
Smell of gas at 6:06 p.m. caused by insulation blown into the attic at 211 Chandler Avenue
Smoke detector activation at 8:33 p.m. caused by someone opening a back door where smoke wafted in from a cooker at the Neon Pig
