Thacker Mountain Radio Hour Features Local Talent this Thursday Evening at 6

Kacy and Clayton will play at set at this week’s Thacker Mountain Radio Hour this Thursday at 6 p.m.

The Thacker Mountain Radio Hour will welcome old friends with a new name this Thursday, March 10 at 6 p.m. at 129 Courthouse Square.

Local rock band Greater Pyrenees, led by former Colour Revolt frontman, Sean Kirkpatrick, will perform a set this Thursday. Author Steve Yates will read from his new novella Sandy and Wayne, and acoustic duo Kacy and Clayton will also perform.

Admission to the weekly broadcast is free and this week’s hosts are Jim Dees and the Thacker house band, the Yalobushwhackers featuring multi-instrumentalist, Eric Lewis.

The show will be broadcast locally on WUMS radio at 92.1 FM and online at: MyRebelRadio.com..

Kirkpatrick says the 10 years he spent in Colour Revolt was a mixed blessing. “I was lazy when I was in Colour Revolt,” he admits. “I sort of put myself in a box. This new band is an education back into what my voice was. We’re making music that is fresh and original again.”

The band consists of drummer Ian Kirkpatrick, bassist Ethan Frink and guitarist Max Hipp. Their latest release is Greater Pyrenees. The band looks forward to embarking on a mini-tour this spring including stops in Atlanta, Philadelphia and Nashville.

Following their Thacker set, Greater Pyrenees will perform at 9 p.m. at Proud Larry’s with the Water Liars.

Author Steve Yates will be the guest author at this week’s Thacker Mountain Radio Hour broadcast Thursay at 6 p.m. at Off Square Books.

Steve Yates is author of the novella, Sandy and Wayne (Dock Street Press) which recently won the Knickerbocker Award from Big Fiction Magazine. The book tells the story of an unlikely love affair between Sandy Cocker a female inspector with the Arkansas Transportation Department, and Wayne Sheridan, a dirt foreman. Yates is author of the novels, Morkan’s Quarry and The Teeth of Souls from Moon City Press and a collection of stories, Some Kinds of Love from the University of Massachusetts Press. Yates is assistant marketing director at University Press of Mississippi in Jackson. He lives in Flowood with his wife, Tammy.

Kacy and Clayton are Kacy Anderson on vocals and violin; and Clayton Linthicum on guitar, melodeon and vocals. The duo interprets and composes music inspired by forms of traditional music from Southern Appalachia and the British Isles. Kacy’s vocals weave seamlessly with Clayton’s finger-style guitar accompaniment. Their latest CD is Strange Country.

Jim Dees hosts Thacker Mountain Radio Hour on Thursday at Off Square Books.

Following their Thacker performance, Kacy and Clayton will perform a full set at 7:30 p.m. at the Shelter on Van Buren, across the street from Off Square Books in the basement of Neilson’s.
