Oxford Crime Report: Wednesday, February 24
Burglary – Oxford Square Apartments
At approximately 2:53 a.m., the Oxford police officers spoke with victims who came to the police department to report that someone broke into their house. This burgular stole their cell phones and an Xbox while they were at home.
The victims stated they were asleep when they heard someone inside their home. The victims then yelled at the suspect to leave and then the suspect came upstairs and took both victims’ phones. He then took one of the victims downstairs before he took the Xbox and left.
Major Jeff McCutchen said, “No one was injured and it is unclear at this time if a weapon was used. Investigators were called to the scene and are currently working the case. We are asking that anyone with information please contact the Detective Division at 662-232-2400 or CrimeStoppers at 662-234-8477.”
Oxford police responded to the following incidents: four disturbances, four alarms, two animal complaints, two petit larcenies, two suspicious activities, a careless driver, a lost property, a fire department assist, a credit card fraud, an identity theft, a welfare concern, a burglary at C.B. Webb, and an improper parking.
Oxford police investigated four wrecks, issued 23 traffic citations and made one arrest on the charges of an expired tag, suspended driver’s license and possession of drug paraphernalia.
University police responded to the following incidents: seven vehicle stops, and two speedings on campus.
Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls:
Smoke detector activation at 5:17 p.m. by cooking at 510 Wedgewood
Smoke detector malfunction at 6:50 p.m. at Oxford Grillehouse
