Mimosa’s Flowers, Gifts and Gourmet Best Photo Contest Goes to Kitty Hurdle with Ole Miss Campus Ministry
When Kitty Hurdle submitted her photo of Cru’s “Galentine’s Day Party,” she had no idea her photo would be eligible for the contest, much less be the winning photo.
Now, women involved in Cru, an interdenominational Christian ministry, are able to share their love for God and one another with a beautiful bouquet from Mimosa’s Flowers, Gifts and Gourmet.
“We had over 50 girls come to our annual Galentine’s Day Party,” Hurdle said. “We had a panel of women in different life stages all sharing their wisdom about life, love and relationships. It was awesome to see so many girls soaking it up.”
Cru serves communities all over the world, but here in Oxford, Hurdle said the organization seeks to provide a spiritual resource to students and faculty at Ole Miss.
“We love helping student and professors explore their spiritual questions, come to know Jesus, grow in their faith through Bible study, prayer, authentic community, and then share his love with others.”
Hurdle explained how many young women come to Ole Miss expecting to find “Mr. Right.” However, it doesn’t pan out as expected for all women.
“What we find their hearts are really looking for is to be chosen, assigned value, cherished and seen,” Hurdle said. “In efforts to help women understand their value apart from having a significant other, we hosted our second annual ‘Galentine’s Day’.”
During their annual event, the girls were able to talk and get to know one another before the “Ask Me Anything” panel. Hurdle said a local therapist, professor, newlywed and herself, who were all from different seasons and walks of life, served as the panelists.
“Girls could text in any and all questions that were on their hearts, and we would attempt to offer wisdom and life experience from which they could learn,” Hurdle said. “Questions ranged from, ‘when you think of your college self, what were your struggles?’ to ‘what are your thought on the ever popular ‘Netflix and Chill’ approach to relationships?’”
Hurdle said the attendance more than doubled this year, and she is sure they will need an even larger space to host next year’s event.
She said, “The most important truth I could offer one of these girls would be the joy of knowing they are a treasured and priceless soul, worth the sacrifice of Christ and the genuine love of a community of people who love them because God first loved us.”
