Ole Miss Ranked in Highest Category for Research Activity

The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education ranked The University of Mississippi as a R1 level research school recently, which is the highest level.
The Washington Post reported that 15 universities across the nation moved up to an R1 level school, while Ivy League school, Dartmouth, and UM rival, Mississippi State University, moved down to an R2 level.
According to the Carnegie Classifications, universities that award at least 20 research and/or doctoral scholarships (other than law or medical) are ranked in three different categories based on their research activity. R3 is moderate activity, R2 is higher and R1 is the highest level of research.
It is no secret that Ole Miss is one of the top research schools in the south, but being recognized on a prestigious national level is a true achievement.
With an average of over 22,000 students, the university is constantly recognized for its medical, law, accounting, business, pharmacy and engineering schools, to name a few.
According to The University of Mississippi Research, Scholarship, Innovation and Creativity, there was $117,264,417 in sponsored awards in 2015. The university filed for 12 patents and so far, nine have been granted.
The University of Mississippi moves up in rankings with Boston College, Clemson, Florida International, George Mason, Kansas State, Syracuse, Temple (Penn.), Texas Tech, Univ. of Texas at Arlington, Univ. of Texas at Dallas, Univ. of North Texas and the Univ. of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

You forgot West Virginia University, Emily. So anyway, as a fellow Deep South Southerner and WVU alumni, I stopped by to say “congratulations” to my Ole Miss friends. We who love WVU are extremely honored and proud, that the hard work of our folks in Morgantown is FINALLY being recognized. This is THE most PRESTIGIOUS recognition the a US school can receive. I do want to mention that I find it hilarious that the ignorant Alabama fans, who thought and stated that WVU wasn’t “good enough” to join the SEC, once again have reason to be humbled. UA is not and will never be a top tier school. There’s no way they can do it by the next ranking, five years from now, starting with virtually nothing today in research. Look for USNWR to raise the rankings of BOTH Ole Miss and WVU in the next ranking edition. Also look for our schools to rise in rankings of world universities. MS and WV have a lot in common, in that our states’ higher education commissions REQUIRE that we serve our state residents with minimal admission requirements. This is actually a good thing. Raising people out of poverty can only strengthen a society. Again, congrats ya’ll! Hotty Toddy and (WVU) Go First!
PS: Tge AAU is from days gone by. Look at the list of member schools – some Ivies aren’t even members. So Mazzzzoooooo can kiss it. GO BIGXII
