T&T Plumbing Keeps Everything Close to Home

Keeping everything close to home is important to Tim Traylor, owner of T&T Plumbing, LLC; and at that, he’s been an extremely successful for over 40 years.

With a wife, three kids and a successful business, Traylor does not see a move anytime in his near future – although, he suspects his wife might rather be on a beach somewhere.

As far as his profession, his plumbing career began when he was a high school student and apprentice in the plumbing business. Traylor, who graduated from Oxford High School in 1994 will turn 41 in March, giving him 23 years of successful, uninterrupted experience in the plumbing industry.

“I started in the service part of plumbing when I was in high school,” Traylor said. “I think it was in my junior year at Oxford High School when I got a job with Plumbline. At the time, Dave Harris owned it and he called me to see if I was interested in a job. When he called, he thought he was talking to my older brother, but he still hired me to work that summer and through my senior year of high school.”

Harris hired Traylor while he was enrolled in a cooperative management class, which required students to have a job during enrollment since students were graded on job performance.

“He (Harris) actually had to grade me for performance and send it in to my teacher,” Traylor explained.

Those evaluations must have improved over time because Traylor remained employed with Plumbline for approximately six years, and moved to Bill’s Plumbing for an additional six years before obtaining his personal license around 2003. Since then, Traylor has obtained his master’s plumbing license.

It was during his employment at Bill’s Plumbing where Traylor strayed away from the service aspect of the industry and began his technical education with new construction.

In 2004, Traylor left the employment of others and set out to open and license his own plumbing business, T&T Plumbing, LLC.

“When I very first started doing plumbing work on my own, I was doing it under Tim Traylor’s Plumbing Service and decided I needed a name with a little more catch to it. Me and my wife started bouncing names around and we came up with T&T Plumbing, LLC, and it stuck,” Traylor said. “We have twin boys and we thought that if they ever wanted to get in the business, the name would already be set up and they’d be ready to go.”

As far as a specialty, T&T Plumbing concentrates predominantly on the service aspect of the industry, but he and his apprentice of two years also tackle new installs and more complex plumbing challenges.

“I’d estimate that now about 90 percent of what I do is on the service end of plumbing,” Traylor said. “I’ve got clients and customers that I’ve been doing work for about 20 years. I’ve done plumbing work for your regular Joe all the way up to Archie and Olivia Manning.”

The winter season historically seems to keep plumbers more engaged than at any other time. When asked about his availability, Traylor said he somehow manages to juggle his customer’s and his family’s needs during this busy season.

“This year hasn’t been so bad yet, but I remember a couple of years ago when it got brutally cold around here during the winter. We worked around 80 hours that week trying to service all of the calls we received,” Traylor said.

One other area worthy of mention is that T&T Plumbing tackles tankless water heaters. Traylor does their installation, service and repair.

“Kind of by accident, I’ve become known as the ‘go-to’ guy for tankless water heaters,” Traylor said. “I don’t claim to know everything there is to know about them, but they definitely keep me busy as well.”
