Brad Paisley brought his Country Nation College Tour presented by Zaxby’s to the new Pavilion at Ole Miss on Sunday, Jan. 24.
While playing to thousands of adoring fans and swapping from an electric guitar to an acoustic guitar several times, one lucky little girl received a special gift from the country star- her very own guitar.
Cheyenne Gray, 6, from Southaven, Mississippi, attended Paisley’s concert with her parents, Jason and Kimberly Gray, who heard about the concert on social media. The family traveled to Oxford and arrived at the Pavilion at 2:30 p.m. for a chance to be some of the first fans in line for the Pavilion’s first concert.
Once the doors opened, only college students were allowed to have floor access during the pre-show, featuring rising country star, Cam. After the pre-show, the floor was open to anyone, and Cheyenne’s parents managed to get her a spot close to the stage.
“After Cam left the stage, we overheard someone saying they were now allowing anyone on to the floor,” Kimberly said. “Cheyenne wanted to go so I took her down there.”
Paisley came to the stage and preformed several of his hit songs and rocked the stage before slowing down to sing “This Is Country Music”, to which he played an acoustic guitar. After playing the intro, Paisley unstrapped the guitar, walked down the stage and spotted young Cheyenne. Everyone in the Pavilion started cheering as Paisley handed the guitar to his young fan.
“She couldn’t stop smiling. She immediately tried to start playing along,” Kimberly said. “She was all like, ‘Mommy, look! He gave me a guitar!’ I kept worrying she was going to hit someone on the back of the head with it being so crowded!”
Kimberly said Cheyenne had never met Paisley before and was “totally surprised” at the act of generosity of the three time Grammy winner.
“Since Brad gave it (the guitar) to her, she has all of a sudden showed great interest in wanting to learn (how to play)” Kimberly said. “She already wants to see him again.”
As for now, the guitar sits on a stand in the family’s living room. Cheyenne is eager to meet Paisley again one day so he can sign that special guitar.
“She has asked me when he will be back,” Kimberly said. “Unfortunately, he won’t be near enough again on this tour to be able to see him. We are hoping something else pops up that we don’t know about so we can (see him again).” And of course get Paisley to sign Cheyenne’s guitar!
Cheyenne’s parents are looking for any chances to get in contact with Paisley or his manager, who is an Ole Miss graduate by the way, to sign the guitar.
“It was a once in a lifetime opportunity,” Kimberly said. “I have posted to Facebook and Twitter trying to get in touch with someone to try and have Brad Paisley sign it (the guitar) for Cheyenne.”
Kimberly said if anyone could help them get Cheyenne’s guitar signed, they could Tweet her @Grayk06.
