New Ole Miss Organization Embraces International Students
The College Ministry at Oxford University United Methodist and the Wesley Foundation partnered with the Exchange and American Student Alliance (EASA), a new student organization at Ole Miss, to host a dinner for international students.
There were about 125 internationals and 25 student volunteers attended the event. Rev. Eddie Willis, Director of the Wesley Foundation, and his wife, Allyson, helped transport the students to the dinner.
“I volunteered, along with some of our Wesley Foundation students, to give rides with one church van and a 5 cars for this event. When I arrived at the apartment complex, there were over 100 students waiting out in the cold for a ride! It took our group a couple of trips to get everyone to the church.”
Founded in 2015 education major, Kelly Slater, EASA was created to help international students connect easier to life at the University of Mississippi.
“This is something that will benefit Ole Miss greatly. Can you imagine going to a college in a foreign country and not having help integrating into the community,” Rev. Willis. “Kelly Slater and the EASA team have struck a chord that is helping so many.”
EASA said there is still great need of host families for the students. The host families get to know the students and invite them to activities around the community. The international students want to be apart of the regular American life, according to EASA.
