Kizer Invited to Training Camp for U.S. U-20 Soccer Team
The recognition keeps rolling in for Ole Miss Soccer freshman CeCe Kizer. Sunday she reported to Carson, California as part of the initial group of players selected to the roster for the upcoming U.S. Soccer Under-20 Women’s National Team training camp.
“We are very excited for Cece to get called up to the U-20’s,” head coach Matthew Mott said. “With her performance this season she showed she was one of the best freshman in the country, and is very deserving of this honor.”
The camp kicks off a year-long preparation for the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. The eighth FIFA Women’s World Cup for this age level (the first two were held as U-19 events) will take place Nov. 13 – Dec. 3 in Papua New Guinea.
Kizer is one of 26 players nationally named to the camp roster by U.S. head coach Michelle French. She will be joined by four other forwards on the roster in Mimi Asom (Princeton), Taylor Racioppi (Duke), Jessie Scarpa (North Carolina) and Ally Watt (Texas A&M).
The Overland Park, Kansas native is coming off arguably the best season by a freshman in Ole Miss history. She was named SEC Freshman of the Year, and a First Team Freshman All-American and the No. 6 freshman in the nation by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
She led all freshmen in the NCAA with 14 goals, ranking third in the SEC and 18th nationally in total goals. She was an NSCAA All-South Region First Team honoree, and was recognized by ESPNW as the National Player of the Week.
