Ole Miss Host Louisiana Tech on the Hardwood
The Ole Miss Rebels basketball team returns home to the Tad Smith Coliseum Tuesday evening as they play host to the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. The tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. on SEC Network.
Ole Miss comes into the game with a 7-2 record. Over the weekend, the Rebels defeated Southeast Missouri. Senior Tomasz Gielo scored 10 points and pulled in six boards while teammate sophomore Marcanvis Hymon grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds in the game.
Senior Stefan Moody continues to lead the conference and ranks 10th nationally in scoring at 23.6 points per game this season.
Moody scored a game-high 28 points, including 19 in the second half, and led the Rebels to the road victory. Moody had just 11 points midway through the second half before he took over the game and scored 15-straight points for Ole Miss over a stretch of three minutes and four seconds.
Louisiana Tech is 8-1 this season after defeating Louisiana-Lafayette 91-79 Saturday. The Bulldogs, who knocked off Ohio State earlier this season, have only one loss the year a 94-68 setback to Memphis, Ole Miss’ opponent this Saturday.
Tech is led by senior guard Alex Hamilton, who is averaging 17.1 ppg and has dished out 50 assists on the year. Close behind Hamilton is junior foward and Murray State transfer Erik McCree at 16.8 ppg and a team-best 7.0 rebounds a game. The Bulldogs are averaging 83.3 ppg and shooting 45.3 percent from the field this season, but have a -1.6 rebounding margin.
Ole Miss and LA Tech are no strangers to one another on the hardwood. As Ole Miss is 7-5 all time against Louisiana Tech with the Rebels winning the last matchup 88-56 in 1997. The Rebels have won the last four meetings (‘97, ‘73, ‘66 and ‘65), while the Bulldogs won five of the first eight game when the series began in 1911. The two teams played a home-and-home series in 1961 and ‘62 and meet annually from 1961-66. Ole Miss leads the series 4-1 in Oxford.
