SEC Power Rankings: Rebels Put Out the Lights in Starkville with Closing Finale
It didn’t take Ole Miss long Saturday to mount a 28-3 halftime advantage in placing the Dawgs too deep in the doghouse to contest in the second half. The 38-27 victory over the 8-4 Bulldogs was the fourth win this year by the Rebs over teams with eight or more wins!
Alabama wrapped up the west with a 29-13 win at Auburn. Florida limped to the finish line in the east after being crushed by Florida State (27-2) in Gainesville. LSU retained their head coach via a 17-9 home win over 8-4 Texas A&M. Tennessee pounced on Vandy 53-28; while 9-3 Georgia struggled with Georgia Tech 13-7.
Kentucky became bowl ineligible by dropping an instate contest to Louisville 38-24. South Carolina scared No. 1 ranked Clemson before exiting 37-32. And on Friday, Arkansas ended Missouri’s season 28-3 in Fayetteville.
If our forecast is correct, Ole Miss will be returning to New Orleans to play in the Sugar Bowl for the first time since 1970 when it was still outdoors. For some reason if we’re incorrect, the sunny Citrus awaits in Orlando.
The bowl opponent in the Sugar will be between Baylor, Oklahoma State and (oh my gosh) TCU. All in all, this was one of the most exciting Rebel teams ever! Congratulations are in order to all involved. How sweet it is!
