Ole Miss Goes Green
The crimson red and yale blue are not the only colors the University of Mississippi are interested in. Ole Miss is interested in the color green. No not talking about Benjamin’s, but bottles. The University is eyeing a more eco friendly environment by recycling bottles and other harmful waste.
The Office of Sustainability administers a few organizations dedicated to keeping the University cleaner and greener. They spearhead groups such as Food Day, Green Day, Green Initiative and much more. The organization’s motto is to “decrease the amount of waste that ends up in landfills by increasing recycling and increasing the use of reusable containers in both the Grove and the Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.”
The Green initiative will be in full effect as the final home game approaches.
The Green initiative is in charge of cleaning the stadium and the Grove after each home game. The group is also selling re-useable water bottles to help eliminate people throwing plastic away.
Freshman Brandon Hutchinson said, “While attending the games, I’ve never just thought about people having to clean up. I’ll try to be more aware of where I place my trash now.”
Post-baccalaureate Kendall McDonald is excited for what the groups have to offer and encourages others to volunteer. “The groups just want a cleaner campus and want tailgaters to be mindful of how they treat the campus,” she said.
So regardless if you’re in the Grove, stadium or anywhere else on campus, place trash in it’s proper place.
