SEC Power Rankings: Ole Miss – LSU Winner Has Major Prize Awaiting
With Arkansas’ 31-14 victory over LSU in Baton Rouge, the Bengals suffered their second consecutive loss.
Should Ole Miss hand them three in a row, the Rebels could well be on their way to the Sugar Bowl, or the Citrus at a minimum. Of course, there is always the grand finale in Starkville. However, State looked lost in its 31-6 rout at the hands of Alabama. And if that wasn’t problematic enough, the Bulldogs are now headed to Arkansas to face the red hot hogs.
Elsewhere around the league, Vanderbilt’s 21-17 win over Kentucky placed any post season possibilities in jeopardy for the Wildcats. Florida totally removed South Carolina from postseason play by a 24-14 margin, Missouri upset BYU 20-16, Tennessee defeated North Texas 24-0 and Texas A&M won its seventh game 41-17 over West Carolina.
One of the more significant contests occurred on the Plains as the ancient rivalry between Auburn and Georgia was undecided until the fourth quarter with Georgia prevailing 20-13. This was Auburn’s fifth loss as the Tigers’ season is now in free fall. And they still have Bama left to go!
Now that we’re down to the final two weeks of the season, here’s our current projection (based upon favorites prevailing) for the bowls:
- Alabama – Final Four Playoff
- Florida – Peach
- Ole Miss – Sugar
- LSU – Citrus
- Arkansas – Outback
- Texas A&M – Texas
- Mississippi State – Music City
- Tennessee – Belk
- Georgia – TaxSlayer
- Auburn – Liberty
Missouri and Kentucky are still doubtful. Vanderbilt may possibly go 4-8 and South Carolina is already eliminated.
