Kick Off the Holidays with YAC’s Holiday Art Market and Theatre Oxford
When you buy local, you boost Mississippi’s economy. The 2015 Holiday Art Market at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center offers you a chance to find one of a kind locally made gifts, arts, and crafts from local artists.
The annual Holiday Art Market is part of the Arts Council’s holiday family programming, offering local art and crafts along with a chance to see a holiday play.
The Holiday Art Market is co-sponsored by the Oxford Artists Guild and will feature booths inside the Powerhouse Gallery. The market opens on Thursday, November 12, from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Be sure to come by Thursday evening from 5 to 6 p.m. for the opening reception! The market will be open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, November 13 and 14, and it will be open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 15. Admission to the market is free.
The market features an art exhibit by members of the Oxford Artist Guild and booths from local artists. A wide array of goods will be offered including handmade soaps by Cypress Lake Soap, wooden bowls by Cecil Bowers, fabric works by Andi Bedsworth, works by J-Man and a dozen other vendors.
Families can also attend Theatre Oxford’s production of Mashed Potatoes and Davey, a family-friendly Thanksgiving play from November 12 through the 15! The play will start at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, and there will be a matinee on Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at http://mashedpotatoes.bpt.me/.
Mashed Potatoes and Davey, written by Megan Orr and directed by Bill Dabney, features nine local talented youth and brings the spirit of Thanksgiving home in a way that will be understandable and enjoyable for adults and children alike.
When the fun loving father of four from the local church invites the local bully, Davey, over for Thanksgiving dinner – the kids decide to turn the tables on him. By the day’s end, however, the antics, lessons, and laughs will have taught them, and us, a little something about thankfulness we won’t soon forget.
