The Ole Miss athletics department is asking the greater Oxford and University of Mississippi community to help support fellow SEC conference member, South Carolina, and the greater Columbia, S.C., community that was devastated by floods, by donating supplies at several Ole Miss athletics events this weekend. There will be several opportunities for members of the greater Oxford and Lafayette communities to donate supplies on Friday, Oct. 9 and Sunday, Oct. 11.

Ole Miss head women’s golf coach, Kory Henkes, is a Columbia, S.C., native and is appreciative of Ole Miss’ support of her hometown.

“I am so thankful to work for such an amazing institution,” Henkes said.  “When Coach Malloy and I approached our administration with the request to help my hometown community and alma mater during this time of complete devastation, they didn’t even hesitate before saying yes.  There are so many families who have lost everything they own.  I am thankful that our Ole Miss family can provide my friends in Columbia, S.C. with a touch of kindness and a glimpse of hope during this difficult time.”

Jennifer Saxon, Ole Miss assistant athletic director of student-athlete development, is also a South Carolina native and appreciates Rebel Nation’s support of her home state.

“As a South Carolinian, it’s difficult to see the devastation that my home state is going through right now.  As I work with staff and student athletes from the area, there was no hesitation in our need to assist the Columbia, S.C. community. We’re glad to be able to support them at this time.”

Additionally, those wishing to donate financially can do so by making $10.00 donations to the Red Cross. All you have to do is text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation to help support those effected.
