Ole Miss Volleyball Beats South Carolina Friday Night
The Ole Miss volleyball team is back to their winning traditions with their victory over South Carolina Friday night.
Rebels hit off the game against South Carolina with a ton of energy and a rambunctious crowd. Last week Ole Miss fell to Mississippi State, but they brought back their fire Friday night. South Carolina started off the game with number 5 Aubrey Ezell. Lexi Thompson made the first point of the night for Ole Miss carrying them into the end of the first set with the lead of 25-23.
Ole Miss started off the second set with Aubrey Edie serving. Kate Gibson made the first point. Nakeyta Clair making two points in a row, with Ole Miss and South Carolina tied 5-5. Rebels survived the wave and were still bringing the heat, leading 19-14 after Kathryn Cather served for the Rebels. Ole Miss ended the second set, still in the lead 25-19.
South Carolina started off the third set with Aubrey Ezell serving. Ole Miss continued the winning battle by beginning the third set 3-0. South Carolina captured the lead with 12-16 in the middle of the third set. The Gamecocks went on to finish in the lead 25-17.
Aubrey Edie served first going into the fourth set. Serving next, Nakeyta Clair set the game at a tie 8-8. The fourth set really came close as both teams brought a lot of liveliness. The crowd stood up and cheered as the game reached to an end with a close call. The fourth set ended with Nakeyta Clair making the last point. The fourth set ends with Ole Miss in the lead 25-23.
Coach McRoberts said, “We worked really hard this week, had a good week of practice. Our energy level was good from warm ups to the end of the match. You gotta earn every win in this league, and were happy we got one!”
Lexi Thompson made a lot of points towards the win against the Gamecocks and said, “The match was a lot of fun, and we prepared really early for it. We were ready for everything they threw at us. I’ve been working all week on being aggressive. I will go aggressive and just move onto the next ball.” The end of the game had the crowd cheering the Ole Miss Hotty Toddy chant celebrating the victory against South Carolina! Rebels win 3-1.
Ole Miss will return with the fight on Sunday against Texas A&M at 1 p.m. The game will occur at College Station.
