Vassallo: Can the Rebels Bounce Back?
This is the question everyone in Oxford is asking following the Swamp sinking.
The last three Reb defeats have not been pretty….30-0 to Arkansas; 42-3 to TCU; and the latest nightmare 38-10 to Florida. Fortunately none of these were at home. Without a running game it’s hard to see Ole Miss as a relevant team in the west. Rushing for 69 yards on 33 carries will not get the job done in the SEC or anywhere else for that matter. Here’s how Bleacher Report graded game number 5 for Ole Miss:The above says it all. The Vanderbilt game pointed to several key weaknesses with the Florida game trumping these in spades. Chad Kelly was literally running for his life the entire night throwing 26 for 40, 259 yards with 4 sacks, 2 fumbles and a PIC.
Florida’s defensive line dominated the game from start to finish. And their offensive line wasn’t bad either as freshman QB Will Grier (battling a stomach virus) threw for 4 TD passes in the first half completing 24 of 29 for 271 yards. Running back Kelvin Taylor rushed 27 times for 83 yards.
Enough reflections from Gainesville.
What will the Rebels do from this point forward? Here’s an objective analysis:
