Taste of the Game: Florida Gators vs. Ole Miss Rebels

Well for those of us who are bracing the travels to the Swamp be careful not to get caught up in Hurricane Joaquin’s path. This week I decided to make our Taste of the Game something savory and simple.

Who doesn’t love a good slice of pie or a filling calzone to satisfy a hungry pallette? I know if I am going to break my diet for something, it better be worth it. And folks, this is worth it.

This place isn’t fancy but it has a cool and content atmosphere where you can eat good pies and homemade sodas. This week, Rebels, you have to stop at Satchel’s Pizza in Gainesville for the best Gameday eats. It is located at 1800 NE 23rd Avenue, and it is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m to 10 p.m.

What I love about this place is that it isn’t caught up in corporate ways. The people there work hard to make sure their customers are well taken care of. It is a cash-only place because the owners don’t believe in paying fees to credit card companies. In case you do forget cash don’t worry because they have an in-house ATM that only charges a buck fifty which goes to charity.

Oh, where to start on this menu! I have to say you can’t go wrong with one of their deep dish pieces which any topping you can mention. If you’re not looking to savor a big pie then I’d go with “THE MAMA Calzone” and one of their homemade sodas or lemonade. If you want to grab a quick lunch bite before you head into the swamp then I suggest one of their awesome lunch specials.

No matter what you pick in this place it’s going to hit the spot and this is the perfect pre or post game spot to hang out with all your rowdy friends this Gameday weekend.
