Ole Miss Volleyball’s Ty Laporte Honored by SEC
Coming off a successful final non-conference weekend in which the Ole Miss volleyball team equaled the best start in school history (14-1), winning the Fight Like Hal Memorial Tournament, senior middle blocker Ty Laporte was named Co-SEC Offensive Player of the Week Monday.
It marks the first time for Laporte to earn an SEC Weekly honor. The Irmo, S.C., native was named the Fight Like Hal Memorial Tournament MVP. She finished the tournament with 37 kills, hit .544 and averaged almost a block per set. For the week, Laporte averaged 3.47 kills per set, 1.00 blocks per set and hit .506 to lead the Rebels, who have won 10 straight.
Laporte moved up to third all-time in block assists at Ole Miss with 235 currently and moved into fourth place all-time at Ole Miss in total blocks with 278 currently. She ranks sixth in the SEC in hitting percentage at .392.
The Rebels have had two players earn offensive player of the week, with senior Nakeyta Clair receiving the honor after the first weekend of play.
Both Laporte and Clair have been instrumental in the team’s start and led the Rebels to their eighth straight tournament title this past weekend.
