Memorial Fund to Support the Future Education of Slain DSU Professor’s Children
A memorial fund has been set up for the family of Delta State University professor Ethan Schmidt, who was killed tragically in Monday’s shooting on the DSU campus in Cleveland, Mississippi.
Schmidt, 39, was an American history professor, who friend Laurie Welch described as “never knowing a stranger.”
“He was full of life and was very passionate about his career,” Welch wrote on the GoFundMe page set up in Schmidt’s memory. “He grew up in the small town of Peabody, Kansas, which he loved being a part of. He was an avid KU Jayhawk fan and loved spending time with his family and his wife and kids.”
Published reports dub Schmidt a “wonderful fellow” and “star” of the Delta State faculty. DSU President William LaForge told NBC News that Schmidt did a “tremendous job” and “advised a ton of students.”
Friends and colleagues hope to raise $15,000 to fund the future education of Schmidt’s three children.
