L-O-U Community Loses True Friend in Billy Ross Brown

The Ole Miss, Oxford and Lafayette County community lost a true friend this weekend with the passing of Billy Ross Brown.

While with the National Guard, he led a unit to facilitate the enrollment of James Meredith at the University of Mississippi.

An Oxford native, his father was a cotton farmer and business owner. He was appointed by George H.W. Bush to the Farm Credit Administration Board in 1990. President Clinton later designated him CEO of the FCA, and he also served as the first chairman of the Farm Credit System Insurance Corporation. Loved by family and friends, he spent most of his life helping Mississippi farmers.
