MDOT Offers Resources to Help Avoid Game Day Congestion
Football season is quickly approaching, and that means hitting the road to support your favorite team. Before heading out, start your road trip off right with free travel resources provided by the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT).
When it comes to getting to campus, most people don’t want to experience a delay of game, and with a number of new intersection configurations in Oxford, MDOT’s travel resources can help you avoid traffic congestion, and a little frustration.
“There are a lot of new traffic configurations around Oxford that game day visitors may not be aware of,” said Transportation Commissioner Mike Tagert. “MDOT has services available that offer the most up-to-date road conditions and travel information.”
Travelers can log on to www.MDOTtraffic.com before hitting the road to get information on road conditions, construction zones weather and more. When you visit the website be sure to create a free account and customize traffic alerts based on the routes you travel most. These alerts can then be sent to you via email or text message.
MDOT also offers the MDOT Traffic mobile app as a companion to the MDOTtraffic.com website. With this mobile app, motorists can receive push notifications for traffic alerts and other valuable travel information.
A third resource offered by MDOT is Mississippi 511, which uses voice recognition software to give the caller the information they are looking for. Simply dial 511 from any telephone to get the most current traffic conditions.
Motorists in and around Oxford should be aware of new intersection configurations in the following areas that could cause potential traffic congestion. MDOT’s travel resources can help you avoid lengthy delays and get you where you’re going as quickly as possible.
- Intersection of Highway 6 and Jackson Avenue
- Highway 30 and Oxford Commons Boulevard
- Old Taylor Road
“These intersection improvement projects are a sign of a strong and growing community,” said Tagert. “We ask the traveling public to exercise patience and use extreme caution when traveling through unfamiliar intersections.”
