Oxonian Joins National Association of Junior Auxiliaries

The Junior Auxiliary’s Oxford chapter has a shining jewel in its crown: Adrian Shipman.

Already a lifelong member of the chapter since joining in 2003, Adrian Shipman has elevated her service from the local chapter to the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries, Inc. (NAJA). She has recently finished three years with the NAJA Education Committee and became a trustee of the NAJA Foundation. She will help raise funds to ensure that NAJA continues to assist chapters in years to come.

The trustees also help the small chapters across the South by helping fund the Child Welfare and National Focus projects. Shipman is an ardent supporter of children’s welfare in Oxford.

She said, “Oxford has a great chapter. Being part of the Junior Auxiliary has made me realize how rewarding it is to be in service. It is important to stand up for the children and to give to make our community better.”

The Oxford chapter offers several projects, including Shipman’s favorite: Art Prints, an original project by the chapter that teaches elementary school children about famous artists and how they can do their techniques or well-known paintings. Among the projects is an Adopt a Family, a project directed by NAJA in which the members provide a family with food, clothing and necessities year around especially on the holidays. This project is one of many ways the NAJA helps the local chapters, and Adrian Shipman will be a part of its endeavor.

Shipman is grateful for Junior Auxiliary chapter for providing her opportunities to step out of her comfort zone. Since joining in 2003, she has worked harder and harder for the children’s welfare in both Junior Auxiliary and for movements such as Initiative 42 for Better Schools. Her dedication sent her all the way to the national organization.

NAJA President Amanda Knaver and NAJA Executive Director Merrill Greenlee said in a letter to the Oxford chapter: “We know that your chapter must be very proud of her. She has extended her service to Junior Auxiliary beyond the local level to give her time, talents and resources to the Association in order to assist all of our chapters.”
