Mesquite Chop House, an upper-end, casual steak house just off the Square, is now open for business. Jim Losapio, owner of Mesquite Chop House, said a true steak house has been brought to Oxford.

“We serve certified Angus beef steaks and prime steaks,” Losapio said. “We grill over mesquite wood, which gives the steaks a little bit of a different flavor profile. You can cut our filet with a fork; it’s that tender.”
In addition to steaks, Mesquite also serves salads, appetizers, entrées and desserts. The entrées range from wild game, such as elk and bison, to poultry and seafood dishes, such as quail and salmon.
Losapio said they have a lot of composed plates, but all of the steaks are a la carte. Customers can choose wild mushroom risotto, a salt encrusted baked potato, jumbo asparagus, skin-on garlic mashed potatoes, roasted wild mushroom, steak fries or creamed spinach to be served with a steak.
“We do unique things like a crab-topped hollandaise, a lobster Biscayne and a Maytag Bleu Cheese topped filet, which gives it a little bit of a better flavor,” Losapio said. “I prefer them topped with a sauce like that.”
Mesquite will accept walk-ins, but Losapio recommends customers call in for reservations. The restaurant also serves fine wines, champagnes and other alcoholic beverages.
The bar opens at 4 p.m. daily and the dining room opens at 5 p.m. Losapio said he hopes to serve brunch within the next couple of weeks and lunch within the next month.
