Oxford Crime Report: Friday – Sunday, July 31 – August 2

Oxford police responded to the following calls: 16 alarms, nine petit larcenies, seven suspicious activity, five general disturbances, five found properties, three welfare concerns, three fire department assists, three parking complaints, three motorist assists, two trespassings, two 911 hang up calls, two suspicious persons, two harassments, two malicious mischief, a domestic disturbance, an identity theft, a loud party, a careless driving, a fraud, a discharging of firework, a burglary and an abuse of a vulnerable adult.

Oxford police made 18 arrests on these following charges:

  • (5) Public drunks
  • (2) Minor in possession of alcohol
  • (2) DUI, careless driving
  • Public consumption of alcohol
  • DUI, careless driving, no driver’s license and failure to comply
  • DUI, simple assault
  • DUI, ran a stop sign and careless driving
  • DUI, speeding
  • Suspended driver’s license, speeding
  • Speeding with a suspended driver’s license, no liability insurance nor a car tag
  • Speeding with no liability insurance
  • a warrant served

University police responded to the following incidents: two vehicle stops, a moving violation per speeding without insurance at University, a trespassing at J.D. Williams Library, a motor vehicle accident at Guyton Hall, and a motor vehicle accident with moving violations of not having a driver’s license on Rebel Drive.

Oxford Fire Department responded to the following incidents:
August 1

  • a hot water heater element short out at 7:35 p.m. at 707 McLarty Road
  • a wreck with vehicle on its side at 9:24 p.m. on Highway 7 North past the river bride – the fire dept. stabilized the vehicle and EMS extracted the patient

August 2

  • people stuck on an elevator at 12:25 p.m. at Martin Hall
  • a wreck with extrication at 2:43 p.m. on County Road 335
  • a fire alarm activated at 5:04 p.m. by movers at 2109 Harris Drive, No. 5
