Oxford parents must complete their children’s online school registration and provide three current proofs of residency verification documents before students are considered enrolled to attend school in the fall.

Oxford School District (OSD) Superintendent Brian Harvey urges parents to fully register their children for school now, so that students will have a great start to the 2015-2016 school year.

“Proving students live in the district, also known as residency verification, is a critical part of the OSD school registration process,” said Harvey. “Only students who live within our district lines are eligible to attend any of our schools. We encourage our parents to turn in their children’s required registration documents and complete their children’s online school registration. If these steps are not taken, a student is not considered enrolled in the Oxford School District for the upcoming school year.”

Whether or not a parent completes their child’s school registration process also impacts school bus transportation availability for students.

“School bus transportation will be available for students who have fully completed school registration for the upcoming school year,” said Harvey. “We want to make sure that every student has a spot on a school bus. In order for this to happen, parents need to fully enroll their children in school, so we can plan accordingly.”

In past years, school officials only required registration documents for students entering certain grades. Residency requirements are established by the Oxford School District Board of Trustees, and according to Board Policy JBCAA, parents are required to provide three proofs of residency verification for all school students in grades prekindergarten through 12. To verify a student’s residency, a parent or guardian must present acceptable forms or documents showing their physical home address with the parent or guardian listed as the individual on the residency documents.

One of the following documents must be provided for student residency verification:

  • Mortgage document
  • Property deed
  • Filed Homestead Exemption Application form
  • Apartment or home lease with the expiration date or,
  • Any other residency documentation that will objectively and unequivocally establish that the parent or legal guardian resides within the school district as determined by the registration coordinator, superintendent or designee.
  •
Also, two of the following items must be provided for student residency verification. The address and name on each of the items below must be the same:

  • Utility bills (water, gas or electricity) dated within the last two months prior to school registration. Two different utility bills can be used for verification, i.e. a water or gas utility bill
  • Personal visit by a designated school district official
  • Valid Mississippi Driver’s License or Mississippi Identification card (ID) or,
  • Any other residency documentation that will objectively and unequivocally establish that the parent or legal guardian resides within the school district as determined by the registration coordinator, superintendent or designee.
  •
Parents can provide required student residency verification documents one of two ways:

    • Upload their children’s residency verification documents as part of their students’ online school registration process or,
    • Drop off their students’ documents at Oxford Middle School (OMS) Monday, July 27, through Friday, July 31, 2015, each day from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The document drop-off event will be held in the OMS Commons area. Oxford Middle School is located at 222 Bramlett Boulevard in Oxford.
