Oxford Crime Report: Friday – Sunday, July 17 -19
Oxford Intermediate School Burglary and City Pool Burglary
Last Friday, employees called investigators with the Oxford police department to the Oxford Intermediate School at approximately 7:30 a.m. The employees had discovered the school was broken into and vandalized. As they worked the scene the officers learned the City Pool was also broken into. The investigators used video evidence to identify two suspects that were in the school earlier that morning. With video evidence the juvenile individuals were identified. After the interviews with the suspects and their families the investigators were able to solve the school burglary and the pool burglary. All charges were filed through the juvenile court.
There were two more burglaries at Horne Road and Old Taylor Road.
Oxford police responded to the following incidents: 16 alarms, eight suspicious activities, six disturbances, four 911 hang ups, three noise violations, three harassments, three fire department assists, three motorist assists, three careless drivers, two welfare concerns, two improper parkings, two petit larcenies, two simple assaults, an identity theft, an animal complaint, a fraud, a civil matter, and a credit card fraud.
Oxford police investigated 13 wrecks, issued 50 traffic citations and made 14 arrests on the following charges:
- (4) public intoxications
- (2) minors in possession of alcohol
- careless driving with possession of schedule II narcotics and a DUI
- careless driving with possession of drug paraphernalia
- speeding without a driver’s license and a failure to yield to emergency vehicles
- consumption of alcohol on city streets
- possession of drug paraphernalia with a fake ID and a warrant served
- speeding without car insurance nor a driver’s license
University police responded to the following incidents: 10 vehicle stops, a disturbance and a petit larceny at Starnes Training Center, an accidental hit and run at University Village, a counterfeit per false pretense at the Grove, a suspicious vehicle on the Rebel Drive, a vehicle accident at Hefley Hall, an emergency medical service requested due to an intoxicated person at the Campus Walk, a public drunk at Martin Hall, a simple assault on the Rebel Drive, and a possession of drug paraphernalia at the Burns Hall.
Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls: a wreck at 8:49 a.m. at Highway 7 and University Avenue on July 17, a cancelled call at 5:06 p.m. per wreck with entrapment at Highway 6 East of the Sizzler on July 17, a cancelled call at 8:18 p.m. at 510 Wedgewood on July 17, a cancelled call at 12:02 p.m. at 137 Leighton Road on July 18, a smoke detector and a pull station fire alarm malfunctions at 12:25 p.m. at 1307 Madison Avenue on July 18, a laundry room smoke detector malfunction at 3:29 p.m. at 126 Courthouse Square on July 18, a wreck with entrapment and patient extrication at 11:22 a.m. at Highway 6 East around Country Road 425 on July 19, a smoke detector and pull station fire alarm malfunction at 3:30 p.m. at 1305 Madison Avenue on July 19, a smoke detector activated by cooking at 7:38 p.m. at Southern Place 1755 East Jackson Avenue on July 19, a smoking street lamp at 8:05 p.m. caused by a blown transformer at the University Circle on July 19.
