Oxford Crime Report: Friday – Sunday, June 26 – 28

There a string of burglaries in Oxford this past weekend.

Eight auto burglaries occurred at 500 Olive Branch Way. A residential burglary happened within Highland Square apartment complex at 600 Molly Barr Road. A commercial burglary occurred at Oxford Swim Club at 226 Bramlett Avenue around 9:30 a.m. last Friday when an employee opening the place discovered the cash box was stolen as well as damage to a section of the club’s fence. Anyone with information is requested to please call the Oxford Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 662-234-8477.

Oxford police responded to the following incidents: 16 alarms, 12 disturbances, five improper parking, four lost property, three animal complaints, three petit larceny, two suspicious persons, two malicious mischief, two ambulance assist, a fire department assist, an emergency 911 hang up call, a civil matter, a careless driving, a harassing phone call, and an operating a business without a permit.

Oxford police investigated 10 wrecks, issued 40 tickets and made four arrests on the following charges: following a vehicle too closely with possession of drug paraphernalia and a suspended driver’s license; a vehicle noise violation with a suspended driver’s license; a possession of alcohol by a minor; and a shoplifting.

University police responded to the following incidents: 21 vehicle stops, a moving violation for a driver who ran a stop sign with a DUI on Chucky Mullins Drive, a petit larceny at Coulter Hall, a simple assault at Campus Walk, a moving violation for a driver who ran a stop sign with a suspended driver’s license, a public drunk at Campus Walk, and an attempted forcible burglary with willful trespassing at the Airport at Ole Miss.

Oxford Fire Department responded to the following calls: a general fire alarm malfunction at 7:17 a.m. at Minor Hall on June 26 , a smoke detector activated at 9:48 a.m. at by workers sanding sheet rock at Crosby Hall on June 26, a smoke detector activated at 2:47 p.m. by workers cutting concrete at Brown Hall on June 26, a fire alarm pulled by a child at 9:05 p.m. at McDonald’s on University Avenue on June 26, a canceled call at 10:40 a.m. at The Ritz Apartments on June 27, an assistance call at 12:51 p.m. at Baptist Memorial Hospital on June 27, a smoke detector malfunction at 1:35 a.m. in the Phi Mu house on June 28, a smoke detector malfunction at 1:29 p.m. and 1:46 p.m. in the second floor lab at Baptist Memorial Hospital on June 28, and a smoke detector activated at 9:48 p.m. by cooking at Lamar Lounge at 9:48 p.m.
