Art Class for Adults to Take Place July 6-10
If you’ve ever wanted to take an inside look at the lives and studios of local artists, or maybe try your hand at their craft, you’ll have your chance July 6-10 at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center in Oxford.
The Yoknapatawpha Arts Council (YAC) will host a “Meet the Artists” adult art class centered around studio visits and art technique with teachers Andi Bedsworth and Gail Morton from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day. This hands-on class is suitable for any adult interested in art and for teachers who want to incorporate more creativity in their classrooms.
“Anybody can take part in our class,” Bedsworth said. “Our class is geared toward people who want to learn some basics and for teachers who want to adapt some fun creative projects to their classroom.” Teachers who participate will earn 1.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs.)
This is the third year the class has been hosted. Projects include making mobiles, mixed media and some fiber art. Participants will also take part in drawing exercises to hone some basic technique.
“This is going to be a fun, creative week for our participants,” Bedsworth said. “We’re hoping for a big turnout.”
Class days will consist of project work and carpooling to the studios of local artists to catch a glimpse of their artistic processes and study how they go about creating their best work. Local artists who will be observed include Christine Schultz and Marc Deloach of Taylor Arts, Ron Dale of Irondale, Walter and Vivien Neill of Oxford Treehouse Gallery, and others.
The class is $120 for YAC members and $135 for non-members. Teachers who wish to receive 1.5 hours of CEUs can pay an additional $20. Register for the class at http://meettheartists2.bpt.me/. Spaces are limited.
