Despite the chill in the air the bats of the Ole Miss Rebels were on fire. Ole Miss faced the University of Tennessee – Martin Skyhawks out scoring them 15-2.
The Rebels’ offense scored two runs in the first, second, fifth, and seventh innings. Ole Miss sent 11 batters to the plate during the dominating third inning where seven runs were scored.
Junior Preston Overbey started at second base with an impressive performance at the plate. The five at bats Overbey had rendered him two hits, two RBI’s and four runs scored.
“I was fortunate enough to get the start at second base and the teammates helped me learn it. I practiced there yesterday. My brother, Jake Overbey, and Lance Wilson and everybody helped me learn it. It was a tremendous help,” Overbey said.
Three of the four hits the Skyhawks got on the night were doubles. The Skyhawks scored their two runs in the sixth inning.
The Rebels’ sophomore RHP, Sam Smith, struck out the first two batters he faced in the game. He gave up no runs on one hit with three strike outs and one walk in three innings. The Rebels used a total of six pitchers in the game with the pitching staff recording a total of 14 strike outs and only giving up four hits.
Coach Mike Bianco commented after the game about how the offense performed.
“Scoring some runs on a soft left-handed pitcher that usually gives us problems, took some of the pressure off after playing a tough TCU team this past weekend,” Bianco said.
