Rebel Netter Julia Jones Ready for First NCAA Singles
For the first time in her career, Ole Miss women’s tennis senior Julia Jones will compete in the NCAA Singles Championship, beginning Wednesday at the Hurd Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor University.

Jones is seeded 9-16 in the singles field of 64 and ranked No. 10 in the nation. She will face Arizona State’s Desirae Krawczyk, ranked No. 30 in the nation, in the first round at 9 a.m.
“I am really excited to be part of the NCAA field,” Jones said. “This is what you work for all year, and I am glad it’s finally here. I am happy to be seeded, because that will definitely help me as far as the draw is concerned.”
Jones became the seventh Rebel to join the 100-club in singles and earned All-SEC first team honors. In addition, Jones earned the ITA Most Improved Player of the Year and the ITA Southern Region Senior of the Year Award. At 29-10, Jones is seeking to become the 10th Rebel to record 30 wins in a season.
“Being seeded takes a little of the pressure off, because she knows she’s already an All-American,” head coach Mark Beyers said. “The fact that she is seeded shows the kind of year that she’s had. Pretty amazing from this past summer when she was hurt and didn’t get to play for a couple months to winning regionals in her first tournament back. She’s been so consistent all year. This is a great way for Julia to end her career and have a fantastic senior year.”
Jones has never been shy, and she talked about when she stepped on campus four years ago, wanting to leave as an All-American. Being seeded in the NCAAs made her the 11th All-American in program history.
“When I came to college that was my number one goal,” Jones said. “To have been able to accomplish that in my last year is a pretty big deal and I am really happy. I am trying not to put too much pressure on myself going into the tournament. I am just going to take it one match at a time and see how far I can make it.”
All matches during the tournament will feature live scoring and live video, which can be accessed on the NCAA Tournament Central page.
