Wahl Named SEC Pitcher Of The Week
Junior RHP Set Table For Series Sweep Of No. 12 TCU
From Ole Miss Sports Information
Junior right-hander Bobby Wahl has been named the Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week for his performance in the opening weekend of play, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Wahl set the tone for the Rebels this weekend, picking up the win as the Rebels posted a shutout of the Horned Frogs in the series opener on Friday night. In that outing, Wahl worked 6.1 innings and allowed three hits with three walks and eight strikeouts.
The eight strikeouts was two shy of his career high of 10. After allowing a lead-off double, Wahl didn’t allow another hit until the fifth inning and retired nine of the next 10 batters while holding TCU off the scoreboard.
The series sweep of the nationally-ranked Horned Frogs is the first series sweep of a nationally ranked team to open the season by the Rebels on record. It is also the first sweep of a nationally ranked team since the Rebels swept then No. 5 LSU in the 2010 season.
Ole Miss will return to action on Wednesday afternoon when the Rebels host UT-Martin at 4 p.m. at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
