Ole Miss Travels to Arkansas State to Close Out Road Slate
The Ole Miss Rebels baseball team closes out the 2015 road slate this evening in Jonesboro, Arkansas, as they take on the Arkansas State Red Wolves. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
Ole Miss (28-24) enters the week after sweeping in-state rival Mississippi State over the weekend. On Saturday in the final game of the series, the Rebels trailed the Bulldogs 7-2 in the bottom of the ninth with two men out. Mississippi State’s pitcher walked in three runs before Colby Bortles sent a line drive back up the middle scoring two runs and knotting the game at 7 apiece.
Then in the bottom of the tenth inning, Nick delivered a single to left to score Tate Blackmon from third base.
Throughout the weekend, the Rebels got key production from everyone in the lineup.
With the series sweep, the Rebels defeated the Bulldogs seven times this season in all three sports, the first time since the 1972 season.
The Red Wolves enter Tuesday’s midweek matchup with a record of 23-26 but have won four in a row just like the Rebels. ASU claimed a non-conference win over Central Arkansas before sweeping Texas State over the weekend. The four-game win streak wrapped up a seven-game road trip in which ASU went 5-2. Redshirt-senior Zach George is hitting a whopping .390 at the plate as his 69 hits lead the Red Wolves.
The probable pitching matchup for tonight’s contest will showcase two southpaws battling it out as Mitchell Babb will take the mound for the Rebels and Collin Nord will be ASU’s hurler.
Ole Miss is 22-8 against Arkansas State under head coach Mike Bianco. The Rebels have won the last five games in the series, including a 2-1 victory at Swayze Field earlier this season, Feb. 24.
The Rebels return to Swayze on Thursday evening to take on Texas A&M in the final regular series of the season.
