At least 10 North Mississippians competing for the vacant 1st Congressional District seat are expected to attend a “Candidates Night” at the Overby Center for Southern Journalism and Politics on the Ole Miss campus Thursday.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Overby Center Auditorium.

Invitations were sent to all 13 candidates, and commitments to appear on the program have come from the campaigns of Boyce Adams, Sam Adcock, Ed Holliday, Starner Jones, Chip Mills, Greg Pirkle, Henry Ross, Daniel Sparks, Quentin Whitwell and Walter Zinn, Jr.

Each candidate will be given five minutes to speak uninterrupted. Supporters of various candidates are welcome to attend, and tables will be provided for the distribution of campaign literature.

The Overby Center will try to set up a debate between the two remaining candidates following the first May 12 election.

For further information, contact the Overby Center by telephone at 662-915-1692 or by email at overbycenter@olemiss.edu.
