Safe Ride Ole Miss celebrated their spring fundraising event at the South Depot Taco Shop on Tuesday evening to help raise money for safe transportation around town.
The organization was created in response to Rebel Ride being cancelled for students who live on campus. Gabriella Gonzaba, Safe Ride’s president, wanted a new service to provide students a safe ride from the Oxford Square back to campus on Thursday through Saturday nights. The rides are free and have many pick up and drop off spots throughout campus.
“Students for a Safe Ride’s first fundraising event went really well! We are so happy to get the community and school involved with all our efforts. I hope that we will continue to have the same success throughout the year,” Gonzaba said.
The benefit at South Depot kicked off at 5 p.m. until 10 p.m. with 10 percent off food and happy hour ran all night. There was a silent auction with gifts donated by restaurants and stores around Oxford. Also featured was Ole Miss’ Most Beautiful Pageant 2015 winner, Taylor Alice Mays. Music was provided by Dan Jones & The Black Bears and also Sam Mooney.
