April Ambush at FNC Park Brings Big Business to Oxford Area

“We are very excited,” Oxford Park Commission executive director Rob Boyd said. “This is the sixth year in a row we have done April Ambush. We have just been really fortunate with the participation numbers and the number of teams that come in that want to play. Part of our goal with FNC Park is to impact the community with the economy and get people in hotels, eating in the restaurants, and buying gas and all that. We’ve been able to do that. Of course, Brad Freeman and his group out there running the show, so to speak, they do a fantastic job and it makes our job a little easier really because we just show up and play.

Hotels throughout Oxford have been booked solid for over a month now.

“We have been sold out for over a month for this weekend. Everybody is coming to town for campus visits and April Ambush,” Hampton Inn front desk clerk Austin Turner said. “It’s definitely bringing a good bit of money to our hotel and Oxford in general. People have been inquiring about this weekend for a while now. With April Ambush, the Grove Bowl and really anything Ole Miss, we have just been completely sold out for well over a month. We are completely sold out.”

“Here at the Holiday Inn Express Oxford we are completely booked for this weekend and ready to serve the guests and locals coming through,” front desk staffer Scott Stewart said.

“We are going to have right around 130 teams coming to Oxford and FNC Park to participate in a soccer and baseball event,” Brad said. “It’s definitely one of our biggest events of the year and we are really looking forward to it. Generally, a safe bet if you count the players, the coaches, the parents, the siblings you can say each team represents 30 to 40 people, some more, some less. It just depends on if your grandparents show up as well.  There will be a lot of people here in town for the event.”
