The Ole Miss chapter of Pi Beta Phi sorority will be hosting next week the first annual Lemonade for Literacy event.

IMG_1758The women of Pi Phi will be selling lemonade in the Circle and in front of the Union from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 15. Leading up to next Wednesday, tickets can be bought for $2 from any member of Pi Phi or at a table in front of the Union.

All of the proceeds from the event benefit Pi Beta Phi’s philanthropic foundation, Read. Lead. Achieve. which promotes literacy in children.

“Through philanthropic fundraisers from Pi Phi, programs like these have the possibility to exist,” Emily Reynolds, philanthropy chair of Pi Beta Phi, said.

By providing funds and books, the ladies of Pi Phi hope to encourage the love of reading. Creative imaginations, improved communication skills, and a passion for learning are all established in children because of reading.

ReadLeadAchieveNew-Logo“Read. Lead. Achieve. pilots and funds literacy programs internationally as well as within our own neighborhood. Through First Book, children across the world have the chance to own their very own book,” Reynolds said. “Through Champions are Readers, kids who struggle with reading receive special attention from Pi Phi volunteers. Critical needs schools receive funding from our foundation, and we also have created a school, such as the Pi Beta Phi Elementary School.”

Help the ladies of Pi Beta Phi continue their philanthropic efforts and get a glass of lemonade on Wednesday, April 15. It will be a refreshing break between classes and also supports an outstanding fundraiser.
