Ole Miss’ Hartono Named SEC Freshman of the Week
Ole Miss women’s tennis freshman Arianne Hartono continues to make her presence known on the courts in both singles and doubles, and Wednesday, she was honored by the league office as the SEC Freshman of the Week.
Hartono was named the SEC Freshman of the Week for the first time this season after helping lead the Rebels to wins over Tulane (6-1) and William & Mary (5-2), as the team equaled the program’s best start (8-1) since 1997.
Ranked No. 40 in the nation in singles and No. 54 in doubles, Hartono went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles last weekend, including a come-from-behind win at No. 2 singles in the 5-2 victory against William & Mary. Down a set and 5-2 in the second set, Hartono won 11 straight games to give the Rebels a 3-1 lead.
Hartono improved to 13-6 overall, 4-2 at No. 1 singles and teams with Mai El Kamash for an 11-5 doubles record, 4-1 at No. 3 doubles.
This marks the second weekly honor for the Rebels this season, as Julia Jones was named SEC Player of the Week on Jan. 21.
