Patton Oswalt Geeking Out in Oxford

Square Books invites all of Oxford in welcoming comedian Patton Oswalt this Wednesday to share his second book, Silver Screen Fiend, an ode to his consuming love for silver screen cinema.

Oswalt will be at the Off-Square Books at 5 p.m. to discuss and sign his new book, Silver Screen Fiend, a memoir of Oswalt’s adoration of silver screen cinema. Oxonian and Adventure Time writer Jack Pendarvis will conduct a Q&A with Oswalt. A quick look at Pendarvis’ blog will reveal his knowledge in classic movies also.

In the 90s Oswalt had one love: cinema. Three nights a week, whenever he had free time from MADtv, he sat at New Beverly Cinema watching as many classic movies he could. This addiction lasted four years.

Oswalt told W. Derek Russell of Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal about how he chose the topic for his second book.

“They said they wanted another book out of me, and this is what I came up with,” Oswalt said. “Once I got going, I guess that was the voice that came out. I kind of reconnected with how I was and who I was back in my 20s. I guess I lucked out as it gave the book some fuel and velocity.”

He will talk about that with Pendarvis at the Off-Square Books. Those who bought the memoir from the Square Books can choose to reserve two seats per book at no extra cost. Other than the reserved seats, all seating are provided on first-come, first-served basis.

After talking at Off Square Books Oswalt will be doing stand-up comedy with Luke Douglas Fields at the Lyric. Price of admission is $30 with $45 for balcony seating.
