Mississippi: The Dance Company Brings Modern Dance to Meek
A dance show is a different experience for everyone watching. Someone in the front row might pick up romantic tones from a number of the pieces, while another onlooker further back might see a focus on the ability to rise up from ashes and begin again.
And they’re both right.
This weekend, Mississippi: The Dance Company presents “Encore,” a dance concert highlighting choreography from artistic director Jennifer Mizenko, assistant artistic director Roxie Thomas Clayton and student choreographers Blake Summers, Atarius Armstrong and Bailey Baker. The combination of five choreographers brings a unique style and approach to each piece, giving the stage a new life every time the lights come back up.
Mississippi: The Dance Company has been operating under the wing of Ole Miss Theatre for many seasons led by Mizenko and different student dancers, who bring modern dance to an intimate space for Ole Miss and Oxford audiences.
The show runs this weekend in Meek Auditorium, with curtain at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday. Tickets available at the UM Box Office. Call (662) 915-7411 or go to the Ole Miss Box Office website.
