Ole Miss Bookstore Hosts First Ever Harry Potter Book Night
Bloomsbury Children’s Books publishing invites all to raise their wands! Harry Potter Book Night is a worldwide celebration of J.K. Rowling’s books. In its first year the celebration is on Feb. 5. The Ole Miss Bookstore has its own “special evening of wizard activities.”
Young witches and wizards can gather at the Ole Miss Bookstore at 4 p.m. and enjoy a magical night until 6 p.m. The bookstore is ready to introduce the next generation to the books so loved by the children’s older siblings and babysitters.
The night will begin with the Sorting Hat placing them in one of the four Hogwarts houses. After all are placed the children will compete for house points in the challenges ahead. These challenges include a costume contest, readings from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and a trivia contest. The second store of the bookstore will be dressed up with snacks inspired by scrumptious wizard foods in the books.
The Eeylops Owl Emporium and Post will be there for those to see if their Hogwarts letter has arrived. Those with their letters can choose their wands at Ollivander’s store.
It may be a magical world for the night but selfies are welcome at the photo booth! There will be prizes handed out including copies of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone as well as $25 Barnes and Noble gift card.
Theresa Hannah, trade supervisor of the Ole Miss Bookstore says, “We are excited to be part of this worldwide event. Bookshops, libraries, schools and community centers all over the world are joining in on this one night to celebrate reading and the Harry Potter world. ”
Everyone is invited to attend this enchanted night. For more information Hannah can be contacted at (662) 915-7137 or at umtrade@olemiss.edu.
