The Oxford Chargers basketball squad steps into action tonight as they host the West Point Green Wave inside the Thunderdome on the Oxford High campus. Tip off is set to start at 7:30 following the girls’ game.

Oxford comes into the night undefeated on their home court with a 10-0 record and a 15-3 mark over all on the season. The Chargers are 0-1 in district play after they dropped a close one Friday at New Hope 65-57.

Coach Drew Tyler’s squad is lead in scoring by sophomore Jarkel Joner, who is averaging 17.3 points per game and coming away with 3.4 assists a outing. Senior David Dennis is cleaning up the glass with 8.3 rebounds a game for the Chargers this season.

As a team, Oxford is scoring on average 72.9 ppg and only allowing their opponents to score 33.8 points a game. With the style of defense that Tyler’s team plays, he has them being a true threat to any team that faces them.

West Point is 2-4 on the road and is 8-7 on the year. The Green Way average around 56.5 points a game when they take the court.

After tonight, Oxford hits the road Friday to take on Saltillo at 7:30 p.m.
