Vassallo Interviews: Julia Winston’s Quest to Unleash Women Leaders In Oxford

Julia M. Winston, M.Ed. is founder, executive coach and leadership development expert at BRAVE Communication LLC. She has perfected a process that should be of maximum interest to female leaders everywhere, even us guys could benefit. Julia now resides in Oxford. If the interview below does not capture one’s attention, I don’t know what would!

HottyToddy.com: Julia, please provide us with a concise background sketch about yourself.

Julia Winston: I hold an undergrad degree in Communication from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in Lynchburg, Virginia, and a master’s in Human Resource Development from Xavier University in Cincinnati. I grew up in Baltimore and landed in Oxford two years ago thanks to my husband’s job.

HottyToddy.com: You have an exciting event scheduled for Thursday, January 15th at the Chamber slated for noon. I understand it’s completely full.

Julia Winston: Yes, I am so excited that so many women are interested in my Lunch and Learn called “How to Get More Done, Have More Peace and Lead More Confidently.” It’s one hour start to end and I always start and end on time. It’s all about how women can amplify their job results without feeling overhwlemed!

HottyToddy.com: What will the attendees come away with?

Julia Winston: I am making my attendees three 3 promises. You will walk away 1. Knowing why you never need to read another book to advance your career 2. A seven-step blueprint for how to position yourself to make more money and have more influence and 3. A practical tool to help get more of important things done every day.

HottyToddy.com: What does leadership mean to you?

Julia Winston: Leadership is a popular concept but for me it has three components.: bravery, relationships and vision.

HottyToddy.com: Name three leaders who have inspired you.

Julia Winston: My mentor, Lynne Ruhl, who is the CEO of Perfect 10 Corporate Cultures; Sara Blakely, Founder of Spanx and my undergraduate communications prof, Carla Heath who taught me the real impact communication has on the world.

Julia Winston: Self-doubt, status quo, and distractions to reach her personal and professional potential.

HottyToddy.com: Success means a lot of different things to all of us. What does it mean to you?

Julia Winston: Fully living an alignment with my passion, my values and my skill sets.

HottyToddy.com: Describe your skill sets.

Julia Winston: Extremely articulate with the ability to make complex things simple. I am an excellent listener and therefore able to help others get to the heart of a problem. I am also skilled at helping individuals accept/identify their own unique skill sets.

HottyToddy.com: When you said earlier that leadership involves relationships, please expound.

Julia Winston: Twenty-first century women must know how to lead through influence. You can only gain influence to lead through genuine relationships with others. Like famous author, John C. Maxwell, “People will support a leader before they will support a cause.”

HottyToddy.com: How did you arrive into this field of endeavor?

Julia Winston: My mentor did communications skills training and I job shadowed her for three months. I loved her approach consulting leadership teams! I joined her. I then added a coaching certification to my skill set. And in recent years decided to focus my niche on women.

HottyToddy.com: How long have you been in business?

Julia Winston: I went on my own in 2012. I added Executive Coaching to my business model so help leaders reach their goals faster. Executive coaching is an action oriented one on one engagement between the leader and the coach designed to meet a clearly defined goal.

HottyToddy.com: How does one go about hiring you?

Julia Winston: Simply by emailing me to set up a 30 minute “free” get to know call. In that call we’ll discuss your professional development goals. We’ll both know very quickly if working with me is the right fit. Since I usually work so deeply with ambitious, goal-driven individuals, I only accept a limited number of private coaching clients and currently I only have a few more openings.

HottyToddy.com: What is a question you are frequently asked after a presentation?

Julia Winston: “Can you help me have a difficult conversation with someone at work without the drama or high emotion?” Those conversation can be with bosses, employees, staff members and colleagues.

HottyToddy.com: Let’s fast forward to 2020. Where do you expect to be?

Julia Winston: I expect to be a premiere Leaderships development for women.
