U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, R-Miss., announced Monday that he will serve as Presiding Officer of the Senate during the first day of the 114th Congress today.

Wicker will preside over the Senate from 2 to 2:30 p.m. CST, which will be aired live on C-SPAN 2.

“The new Republican majority is ready to return to regular order and a fair and open legislative process,” Wicker said. “Americans have entrusted us with a solemn responsibility to lead. The Senate, under Republican control, stands ready to get back to work for the American people by replacing gridlock and dysfunction with constructive policymaking and practical results.”

Wicker was recently elected Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), the sixth-highest ranking leadership position in the Republican Party conference of the United States Senate.

Wicker has also been named to five Senate committees and awaits assignments for subcommittee positions.

Today marks the first official day of the 114th Congress, during which newly elected members of Congress will be sworn into office.
