Located on Trout Valley Farm in Tallahatchie County, Trout Valley Quail Preserve provides the unique opportunity to hunt in the visually stimulating eastern edge of the historic Mississippi Delta.

t3You can bag quail, and thanks to a partnership started by grammar school friends and former high school basketball teammates, Cal Trout and Bolton Flautt, knock down a few ducks on the same trip.

Trout Valley Quail, established by farmer and Ole Miss journalism graduate Cal Trout of Charleston, Mississippi, is an innovative Delta business attracting hunters from a wide area. Over the last 15 years, Bolton Flautt, his father, Mike “Catfish” Flautt and brother Alben Flautt have built Tallahatchie Hunts into the standard bearer for guided Mississippi Delta duck excursions. Last year Trout and Flautt discussed working together to offer their clients a little more than the average guided quail or duck hunt.

“Trout Valley Quail Preserve is committed to offering the finest in guided quail hunts this region has to offer,” Trout said. “It didn’t take long to see with such a well-established clientele already coming in to duck hunt, that they would need something to do in the afternoon. Bolton and I talked a few times and tried it out last year.

t4“This year, with us both doing our booking through Big Time Booking out of Florida, it was easy to set our websites to carry a combo hunt. The rest has been gravy. We’ve had hunters from Texas, North Carolina, South Caroline, Alabama, Mississippi, South Florida, Tennessee. Our clientele is becoming increasingly spread out. I love it.”

So far the gamble has paid off. At this point the two business have sold over twice as many combo hunts as the entire season last year.

“Yeah, it’s great right now,” Trout said. “We’ve been able to get the word out and people are really responding to it.”

Trout Valley Quail Preserve also offers morning, afternoon or full day quail hunts.

Reservations can be made by calling (662) 832-6770, or you may book online and Tallahatchie Hunts.
