Mississippians and many Southerners have always known Oxford is a special place, and the rest of the country is starting to catch on.
Travel and Leisure recently listed Oxford among America’s Top 20 College Towns, citing “Oxford is as passionate about literature as it is about sports playbooks.”

William Faulkner forever guards city hall and watches over the people on the Square.

Home to Ole Miss, Oxford is a quaint, small town housing about 20,000 residents and the state’s flagship university since 1848. The town has grown significantly as the popularity of Ole Miss has increased, spanning about 10 square miles of Lafayette County.
Under the leadership of longstanding Mayor Pat Patterson, the town has embraced the college atmosphere while still remaining a wonderful place to raise a family or retire. Oxford is home to one of the premiere tailgating setups in the country and has housed many literary geniuses including William Faulkner, John Grisham and Curtis Wilkie.
